Patch Notes — May 13, 2026: The Toolbox & A New Quest from Hank

New Features

  • The Toolbox — A new master tool that absorbs your ranch tools so you can carry one item instead of seven. Use the toolbox on a tool to install it; use the toolbox on a target and it picks the right head automatically (chops trees, mines rocks, harvests wheat, etc.). Use the toolbox on itself to open a management window where you can extract installed tools back. Compatible with pickaxe, axe, saw, hammer, hoe, scythe and sickle. Fire Bug and Watering Can stay separate. The window auto-closes if you walk off or send the toolbox away — no leftover dangling state.
  • "Toolbox for Hank" quest — Once you finish every job in Earning Your Keep — Chapter 2, Hank starts offering to forge you the master Toolbox. Talk to him for the details. Bring him a token from each tool (an iron ore, a log, a plank, a bunch of wheat, a sugar cane stick) and visit his backyard to clear the old anvil base with the hammer and till the weed patch with the hoe. Tokens prove you have used each tool with your own hands — no shortcuts. Reward: the Toolbox itself.
  • Two new achievementsHappy Farmer for harvesting your first bunch of wheat, Sweet Tooth for harvesting your first stick of sugar cane.

Balance

  • Burning sugar cane is no longer harvestable with a scythe — wait for the flame to die down into the harvestable stage, then use the Sickle as intended.

Documentation

  • Wiki & Cyclopedia — Toolbox documented under Essential Tools (Getting Started). See the Wiki for full usage details.
  • Cyclopedia achievement parity — The in-game achievement list and the character profile pages were missing entries 69-85 (Order Board, Livestock Yard, Cisterns, Greta arc, Donkey, plus the two new wheat/cane achievements). All synced now and visible everywhere.

As always, feedback on Discord!

Patch Notes — May 12, 2026 (Hotfix): Quest Log, Mount & Look-Text Fixes

Bug Fixes

  • Quest Log: missing green checkmark — Any second (or later) completed quest in your log was being rendered without the green completion check, regardless of its actual state. Tracked down to a stray dev-test line left over from an upstream client update. Removed. All previously completed quests will now show the check the next time you open your Quest Log.
  • Earning Your Keep - Chapter 2 invisible in the Quest Log — Chapter 2 only appeared in your Quest Log if you accepted Marta's quest first. Players who went to Hank, Ivy, Osric or any of the other six NPCs before Marta had no Chapter 2 entry in their log, even while completing missions. The chapter now appears as soon as you finish Chapter 1 (Greta's questline), in any order, with any NPC.
  • Training horse logout slowed you down — Logging out while mounted on Osric's training horse and logging back in left your character walking slower than your baseline speed (the mount's speed bonus was being subtracted twice). Login flow now leaves your speed untouched — the engine already cleans it up correctly on logout. Players who hit the bug can fix their character by mounting and dismounting any horse once.
  • Ranch animal look text — Looking at a ranch animal now shows the base species name (a horse, a cow, a sheep, a chicken, etc.) regardless of breed or coat color. The white horse, ranch brown horse, ranch black sheep and friends were previously reading their full internal name.
  • Sugar cane irrigation — Sprinklers and the irrigation lever now water dry sugar cane plots, same as wheat and trees. Previously the new crop was being skipped by the auto-watering systems.

Patch Notes — May 12, 2026: Sugar Cane & Mount Treats

New Features

  • Sugar Cane farming — A brand-new crop that follows the wheat workflow: hoe the soil, plant Sugar Cane Seeds (sold by Ivy, 15 gp), water once, and watch it grow through three stages over one game day of online play. See the Wiki for the full chain.
  • Fire Bug harvest — Sugar cane is harvested with fire, not the scythe. Use a Fire Bug on the mature plant: most of the time it ignites and burns for 30 seconds before becoming harvestable. About one in ten times the bug fizzles, burns out in your hand, or even explodes for 5 damage — each outcome shows a clear message. Once the cane has burned down, use a Sickle to receive 1 Bunch of Sugar Cane straight into your inventory.
  • Sugar processing chain — Mill a Bunch of Sugar Cane to refine it into Sugar (3 second countdown), then run Sugar through a Distilling Machine to produce a Sugar Cube (sells to Marta, future oven recipes coming). Separately, you can combine a Bunch of Sugar Cane with a Bunch of Wheat directly to craft Sugar Oat — vanilla recipe, instant, no machinery required.
  • Sugar Oat — Mount Speed Treat — Use a Sugar Oat directly on your horse or donkey to apply a +5% mount-speed buff for 30 real minutes. Feeding again refreshes the timer. The buff ticks in real time even when you are offline, so use it shortly before your next ride!
  • Energized status icon — A new cyan sparkle now appears over horses and donkeys while a Sugar Oat treat is active, so you always know whose boost is running. Priority sits below hungry / sick / ready so you never miss a critical animal alert.

NPC Shops

  • Hank — Now also stocks the Sickle (50 gp) and the Fire Bug (25 gp).
  • Ivy — Now stocks Sugar Cane Seeds (15 gp).
  • Marta — Buys and sells Sugar Cube (base price 40 gp, dynamic economy).

Bug Fixes

  • Bull / donkey slaughter cargo loss — Slaughtering a loaded bull or donkey now drops the cargo on the ground instead of vaporizing it. No more accidentally turning your harvest into beef.

Documentation

  • Cyclopedia (Ranching tab) — Sugar Cane subsection added under Farming, plus tool list updates.
  • Wiki — New Sugar Cane section in the Farming article, plus Sugar Oat cross-reference in Horse Mounts.

Patch Notes — May 11, 2026: Donkeys & Furniture Overhaul

New Features

  • Marlow Pell & the Donkey — A new breeder sets up shop west of the castle, selling donkeys for 300 gold. Donkeys are a hybrid animal: they mount like a horse (50% of the speed bonus) and carry cargo like a bull (50% of the slots and weight). Pre-tamed, no waiting period. Sheep-style breeding: jennies and jacks, no coat colors, with both Speed and Cargo DNA inheriting independently from the father — see the Wiki for the full breakdown.
  • Furniture overhaul — New seating, tables, chests, cabinets, a premium stone oven, and miscellaneous decor. Categories in the Building Book have been restructured for easier browsing.
  • Building Book width + materials display — Wider book window and a complete material-requirements map: every construction now lists its required materials properly when previewed.

Bug Fixes

  • Viewport edge flash — Widened the client's aware range by 1 tile, eliminating the black-tile flicker that could happen when walking left or up at speed.
  • VIP groups foreign-key error — Fixed a Canary internal error in the VIP groups system that triggered on default groups, which could surface during character creation flows.
  • Cleanup — Removed the stray !bless talkaction and renamed item 3748 to "orange tree bush."

Documentation

  • Cyclopedia (Ranching tab) — New Donkeys section added.
  • Wiki — New Donkeys article with mechanics and breeding details.

Patch Notes — May 9, 2026: Side Quests, Breeding Fix & Linux Support

Earning Your Keep — Chapter 2

Eight brand-new side quests are now available once you finish Greta's tutorial arc. They are short (5–15 minutes each), can be done in any order, and reward you with gold, items, and a few lore breadcrumbs along the way.

  • A Round on the House — Marta sends you to greet six villagers. Walk the loop, get a chocolate cake.
  • Silver for the Forge — Hank needs silver bars for a commission. Mine, smelt, deliver.
  • Left at the Yard — Ivy left two seed bags inside containers at the Livestock Yard. Find both.
  • A Crate at the Dock — Elara is expecting a shipment. Fetch the manifest from Captain Aldwin.
  • Prove Your Seat — Osric loans you a training horse. Win a Bronze tier joust to earn his trust (and the Rune Master outfit).
  • A Candle for Aldric — Father Edmond keeps a vigil. Light the chapel bowl with a torch.
  • Sailor's Supper — Captain Aldwin lends you a fishing rod and worms. Bring back a bass.
  • The Mailman's Helper — Cedric teaches you the post office system: address a parcel, drop in a mailbox.

NPCs with quests will show a ! over their head — same indicator as the original tutorial.

Breeding Fix

A long-standing bug where babies could be born with the wrong (cream/light) coat colors when the server restarted between conception and birth has been fixed. From now on, the father's coat colors and genes are saved immediately on conception, so they survive any restart before the baby arrives.

Pre-existing animals born with the bug are not retroactively corrected — they keep their colors. Only colorizable species (white horses and white roosters) showed the bug visually.

Linux / Wine Support

The website now has a dedicated Download page with two options:

  • Windows Launcher (recommended) — auto-updating Electron app, same as before.
  • Standalone (Wine / Portable) — a portable .zip with the game client and all assets. Extract anywhere, run otclient.exe. Linux players can launch it through Wine. Re-download after each patch since it has no auto-updater.

Direct download links from the navigation bar now lead to this page so you can pick whichever fits your setup.
