Patch Notes — April 21, 2026: The Livestock Yard Opens

One day after the Jousting Arena went live, Thornfeld opens its second public square: a consignment yard where players can sell animals to each other. Rare DNA lines finally have a market.

The Livestock Yard

  • Harlan the Auctioneer — new NPC near the town center, running 8 numbered pens along a browsing board.
  • List your animals by walking them up on the halter and saying sell <price> (100-1,000,000 gp). Harlan quotes the fee, you confirm, and the pet goes straight into a pen.
  • 5% listing fee upfront, non-refundable. 10% bailiff tax on the final sale price. The rest is deposited straight to your bank.
  • 2 active listings per player — enough to move inventory, small enough to keep rare genetics scarce.
  • Listed animals freeze in time — feed, water, age, pregnancy, and milk / shear cooldowns all pause. Buyers receive the exact snapshot captured at listing time.
  • Pregnant animals can be listed — the new owner inherits the pregnancy (timer resumes on purchase).

The Browse Board

  • Drawing board next to Harlan — click it to open a window listing every animal currently on the block.
  • Filter by species (horses, cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, dogs, bulls, black sheep) and sort by pen number, price, or age.
  • Each entry shows the animal's sprite, tag, sex, species, age, price, seller, pen number, and time left before it moves to storage.
  • Rare genetics flags — DNA 7+ in any stat shows a green highlight. Pregnant animals flag pink, sick animals flag red.
  • Inspect button opens the full DNA card — the same window you see on your own animals. No secrets: buyers see everything before paying.

Buying

  • Pick a pen from the board, walk to Harlan, say buy <pen> and confirm. The animal is handed to you on the halter.
  • Gold is pulled from your pockets first; the bank covers any shortfall.
  • Your max-pet cap applies — you can't buy if your ranch is already full.

Storage & Notifications

  • 24-hour pens — if no one buys in that window, the animal moves to Harlan's stable (storage) and the pen frees up for another listing.
  • Storage is indefinite. Say claim to see a numbered list of your stored animals, then claim <N> to take one back. No fees.
  • Sold while offline? Gold goes straight to your bank. The next time you log in, Harlan's clerk sends a message telling you what sold and for how much.
  • Change your mind? Say retrieve <pen> to withdraw your own listing. The 5% fee is not refunded — that's the cost of holding a pen.

Achievements

  • Farmer's Market (Grade 1, 1 pt) — your first sale at the Yard.
  • Cattle Baron (Grade 2, 5 pts) — 50 sales completed.
  • Discerning Buyer (Grade 1, 1 pt) — your first purchase at the Yard.
  • Cattle Connoisseur (Grade 2, 5 pts) — 50 purchases completed.

Under the Hood

  • Pet DNA card now publicly visible for any animal currently listed at the Yard — so buyers can inspect before bidding (private again once the animal goes to storage or is taken home).
  • New extended opcode (216) powers the board UI; inspecting reuses the existing pet-info window to keep things consistent.
  • Full walkthrough of the system is live in the in-game Cyclopedia → Ranching tab and on the Wiki.

Build a pedigree, cash out the rest. Harlan is waiting.

Patch Notes — April 20, 2026: The Jousting Arena Opens

Two full weeks of combat, polish and lore-building ship today. Thornfeld now has a working tournament ground — and Brazilian players get a dedicated low-ping route.

🛡️ The Jousting Arena

  • Herald NPC — the arena announcer. Ride up mounted and ask about tiers, rules, or your record.
  • Four tiers by Speed DNA bracket: Bronze (1-3), Silver (4-6), Gold (7-9), Champion (10+). Each horse fits exactly one tier.
  • Solo matches vs AI opponents. Say the tier name and confirm — the Herald teleports you to the arena.
  • PvP duels via challenge <playerName>. Target must be at the Herald to accept. 30-second expiration.
  • Best of 3 rounds. Each round: pick your aim (HIGH / DEFEND / LOW), time your STRIKE in the green zone, clash at mid-arena.
  • Aim rules: HIGH beats LOW, LOW beats DEFEND, DEFEND beats HIGH.
  • Pot economy: winner takes 2x entry fee minus 10% bailiff tax. Loss = entry forfeited. Draw = refund.
  • Points: +10 on win, -10 on loss, 0 on draw. Clamped at zero (never negative).

🏟️ The Living Arena

  • 22 ghost spectators live in the bleachers 24/7, chatting between matches and reacting during fights.
  • 14 town NPCs (Bailiff Roderic, Marta, Hank, Cedric, Ivy, Captain Aldwin, Fletcher, Barnaby, Osric, Grubb, Wick, Elara, Rashid, Father Edmond) appear in VIP seats during real matches.
  • Idle demos: when the arena is empty for a while, wandering riders stage a quick duel so passers-by get a show.
  • Live reactions — crowd cheers, boos, and shouts during every match phase.

🇧🇷 Brazil Proxy — Low Ping for BR Players

  • Dedicated São Paulo proxy server for Brazilian players.
  • On the login screen, pick "Brasil" in the region dropdown — all game traffic now routes through SP before reaching the main server.
  • Connection quality went from ~700ms spikes with 20% packet loss to a stable ~143ms with no loss.
  • Transparent — no client install, no VPN, no config. Just pick the region.
  • North America / Europe players keep the default "USA" route (unchanged, direct to the main server).

🏠 Thatched Roof

  • New roof style in the Building Book: 13 variants of Thatched Roof.
  • Cost: 6 bunches of wheat per tile (harvested from your crops).
  • Alongside the existing Tiled Roof (6 clay each, 10 variants) — 23 roof tiles total now.

🐴 Mount Colors Sync Everywhere

  • Engine patch: colorizable White Horse now shows its coat colors instantly to every nearby player, no login or walk-up delay.
  • The riders unique horse colors ride along in the standard outfit packet.

🐛 Fixes & Polish

  • Roofs can no longer be placed outside your ranch footprint (upper floors now properly validated).
  • Jousting match UI is compact and per-phase (aim panel small, skill bar wider, result banner centered).
  • HUD auto-hides during a match so the arena gets full focus — restored automatically on exit.
  • Result message formatting bug on loss fixed.
  • Mid-match logout now forfeits gracefully; opponent wins the pot, stranded riders are teleported out on relog.
  • Arena locks to one match at a time — second inscription waits instead of overlapping.

Ride with honor!

Patch Notes — April 18, 2026

New Features

  • Colorizable Horses — horses can now be born with unique natural coat colors! Each horse has 4 independently colored regions: mane/tail, body, face marking, and hooves. Colors are randomly generated from a curated palette of realistic tones when purchased.
  • Coat Color Breeding — when two horses breed, each color region independently picks from the mother or father (50/50 per channel). No mutations occur, so the only way to introduce new colors is by purchasing new horses. Breed selectively to get the perfect look!
  • Rare Face Markings — 10% of horses are born with a visible face marking (a different color from the body). Most horses have a uniform face matching their coat.
  • Mount Colors Persist — when you ride your horse, it keeps its breeding colors. Your character appears on top with their own outfit while the mount underneath shows the horse's unique coat.

Improvements

  • Halter Stair Follow — leashed animals now follow you up and down stairs! If the animal is more than 4 tiles away when you change floors, the halter slips off automatically.
  • Cyclopedia Reorganized — the Ranching tab is now the default tab. Items and Bestiary tabs have been hidden.
  • All horse variants unified — every horse now displays as "Horse" regardless of internal variant, including in the Pet Book and Animal Info panel.

Balance Changes

  • Tree growth slowed — all trees now take 3 hours per stage instead of 2. Fruit regrow after harvest is also 3 hours. Wheat is unchanged.

Bug Fixes

  • Highscores — removed the Fishing category from the in-game highscore dropdown.

Patch Notes — April 15, 2026 (Update 2)

New Features

  • Halter stair follow — leashed animals now follow you up and down stairs! No more leaving your new horse stuck in the stables. If the animal is too far when you change floors (more than 4 tiles away), the halter slips off automatically.
  • Cyclopedia reorganized — the Ranching tab is now the default when you open the Cyclopedia. Items and Bestiary tabs have been hidden since they are not relevant to Thornfeld.

Balance Changes

  • Tree growth slowed — all trees (pine, orange, banana, mango) now take 3 hours per stage instead of 2 hours. Fruit regrow after harvest is also 3 hours. Wheat is unchanged (still 2h per stage).

Bug Fixes

  • Highscores — removed the "Fishing" category from the in-game highscore dropdown. Only Reputation remains.

Documentation

  • Updated the in-game Cyclopedia and website Wiki to reflect the new 3-hour tree growth timers.

Patch Notes — April 15, 2026

New Features

  • Ready-to-produce icon (gold sparkle) — every ranch animal now shows a small golden sparkle above its head the moment it is ready to be harvested. Cows ready to milk, sheep ready to shear, hens about to lay eggs — all visible at a glance from across the pasture. The sparkle only appears on healthy, well-fed animals, so a hungry or sick beast hides it until you take care of them first.
  • Discord button on the website — a new Discord link sits in the top navigation and footer of every page so you can jump straight into the community.

Bug Fixes

  • Pet Book "Cargo" label — the bull cargo line in the Pet Book detail panel was being clipped to "Car". Window re-laid out so the full text and value display correctly.

Documentation

  • Status Icons section added to both the in-game Cyclopedia (Animal Care chapter) and the website Wiki, explaining every icon that can appear above a ranch animal: heart (sex), orange circle (hungry / thirsty), green cross (sick), and the new gold sparkle (ready to produce).
